Delete your Urban Biome account
How to delete your account and data from the Urban Biome app for iPhone and Android, published by Urbanbiome Ltd, trading as Urban Biome.
You can delete your account yourself, in the app, at any time. It takes effect straight away, and we don't ask why. If you can't use the app, email us and we will delete it for you within one month, as UK data protection law requires.
Option 1 — Delete your account in the app
- Open Urban Biome and sign in.
- Tap your account button (the person icon) at the top of the screen.
- Tap Delete Account, at the bottom of the menu.
- Choose whether to Also delete my photos. It is on unless you turn it off. If you turn it off, your photos stay on the map, and you won't be able to ask us to remove them later (see "What is kept" below).
- Confirm. Your account is deleted immediately. This cannot be undone.
Option 2 — Ask us by email
If you can't sign in, or no longer have the app installed, email us from the address you signed up with:
Email: support@urbanbiome.co.uk
Subject: Account deletion request
We'll confirm we have your request, check it came from the account holder, and delete the account within one month. Tell us whether you want your photos deleted too; if you don't say, we delete them. You can also use this address to ask us to delete particular photos or records without deleting your whole account.
What is deleted
- Your sign-in, name, display name and email address.
- Every photo you uploaded, from storage as well as from the record, if you leave Also delete my photos on (it is on unless you turn it off).
- Your device's push-notification registration, your organisation memberships, your block list and the record that you confirmed you are 18 or over.
What is kept, and why
- The site records you contributed (location, type, condition and observation notes) are kept, with your name and account identifier replaced by a random anonymous marker. They stay linked to one another as the work of one anonymous contributor, with their locations, so someone who knows where you record sites might still recognise them as yours. We keep them because other people's condition timelines for the same sites depend on them. If you want specific records removed as well, email us and tell us which ones, and we will consider the request on its facts.
- Your photos, if you turned off Also delete my photos, stay public on the map with the sites they belong to, without your name, linked to the same random marker as your site records, not to you. Once your account is deleted, we can no longer tell which photos were yours, so you can't later ask us to remove them. Anyone, including you, can still report any photo.
- Content reports you made are kept for one year after they are resolved, without your identity, as a record that they were acted on.
- Operational logs (spend counters, photo screening results) are deleted automatically after 90 to 180 days.
- Backups. Deletion takes effect on the live service straight away, but copies made before you deleted your account stay in our backups: Cloudflare's own copy of our database for 30 days, and a daily copy of our database and photos on a server we own and control, in the UK, with access restricted to us and no set deletion date. Backups are used only to restore the service after data loss, and we never restore a deleted account from them.
The full detail is in section 5 of our Privacy Policy.
Your other rights
Under the UK GDPR you can also ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected, receive it in a portable format, or object to or restrict how we use it. Email support@urbanbiome.co.uk; we respond within one month.
